What is a Stone Carpet?

  • December 18, 2024

Swimming pools with carpets? Doesn’t that sound good? Indeed. Provided, of course, we’re referring to carpets made of stone granules. Made of grit and gravel, “stone carpets” may not be as fluffy as shag pile carpets. They are, however, much more robust and easy to care for – and far more versatile.

Stone carpet is a flooring system made from small stones or natural rocks that are mixed with a resin or chemical binder, then compacted onto the floor. Basically, they mix small smooth gravel with epoxy then spread it out over the surface of a patio, walkway, or even inside a room. Once it’s dried it makes a nice looking smooth, non-slippery waterproof surface.

Stone Carpets have become very popular for their easy application, great looks, and durability. It recently has a huge number of searches on Google.

Stone carpet is a versatile, durable, and low-maintenance option that can be used in both residential and commercial settings:

  • Appearance Stone carpet can add texture, color, and sheen to a floor. It’s available in a wide range of colors and textures.
  • Durability Stone carpet is strong and durable, making it suitable for areas with heavy foot traffic.
  • Maintenance Stone carpet is easy to maintain and can be cleaned with a vacuum, broom, or occasionally washed with steam or hot water.
  • Installation Stone carpet can be installed indoors or outdoors, on floors or walls, and even over existing surfaces.
  • Performance Stone carpet is non-slip, has draining properties, and is resistant to water and chemicals.
  • Insulation Stone carpet provides acoustic and thermal insulation, restricting heat and sound transfer.

Made of grit and gravel, “stone carpets” may not be as fluffy as flokati or shag pile carpets. They are, however, much more robust and easy to care for – and far more versatile. Stone carpets are probably the most versatile carpets in use.

Stone carpets are probably the most versatile carpets in use. Invented in the 1970s, they have become increasingly popular in recent years. There are many reasons for this: being robust and durable and thanks to their anti-slip properties, stone carpets are ideal in areas that are exposed to high foot traffic, for example stores and malls. Stone carpets can be laid on all kinds of surfaces, in both indoor and outdoor areas such as balconies and decks. You could, in fact, say they are almost predestined for swimming pools, saunas and spas. Depending on their area of application, regular vacuuming and, occasionally, a little steam are enough to keep a stone carpet clean.

Stone carpet can be used in a variety of spaces, including homes, offices, hotel lobbies, bathrooms, saunas, spas, and more. Mostly they are installed around spas, or other areas where it could be slippery. They are not typically installed indoors but it’s not out of the question.

Stone carpets can be installed in many places, including:

  • Outdoor areas Stone carpets are often used on balconies, terraces, and paths. They can also be used around swimming pools, saunas, and spas.
  • Public spaces Stone carpets can be used in areas that are frequently used, such as hotel lobbies and reception areas.
